The American people deserve a responsible bill that protects the taxpayer and holds Wall Street responsible for its irresponsible choices. Unfortunately, the bailout bill that I voted against did not do so.
These are tough economic times, but approving a bill that does not do enough to protect our taxpayers is completely unacceptable. I want to make sure we hold Wall Street accountable and demand Wall Street to put its money on the table before I consider allowing a dime of taxpayer money to go forward. I refuse to give the Administration a blank check and I will not reward reckless, irresponsible or corrupt executives for their bad decisions.
My priority remains to protect our families, our community, our local jobs and economy and the taxpayers’ hard-earned money. I am still hopeful and am working to have a bill that puts taxpayer interests first.

This nation has gone through difficult and turbulent economic times before and this time will be no different. We can and we will make it through this rough economic patch, and we will do so thanks to the ingenuity, dedication and common sense values of the American people that makes this nation so great.
During this tumultuous time it is important to know that the money you have in the bank is secure and guaranteed. We are not in the Great Depression and we are acting swiftly to ensure we do not repeat even a shadow of that era.
My commitment to you is that I will continue to do whatever is necessary to stabilize our economy and to begin growing again and creating good jobs.
